GMC Srinagar performs 1st microvascular free tissue transplant

The Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, has successfully performed first of its kind microvascular free tissue transplant in the management of critical limb injury in Kashmir, an official said.
The official said that the super-specialty department of Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery achieved a milestone by successfully performing the first Microvascular free tissue transplant. “The surgery was performed on a young male with compound comminuted fracture with exposed bone and prosthesis,” he said. He said the seven-hour-long surgery was performed by Dr. Mir Yasir (Consultant Plastic Surgeon) assisted by Dr Ishfaq Ahmed and Dr. Imtiyaz under the guidance of Head of the Unit Prof Shabir Iqbal.
Meanwhile, Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof Parvaiz Ahmed Shah lauded the efforts of the department and promised to provide all necessary administrative support to further upgrade it including procurement of latest state of art microsurgical equipment. The Principal also inaugurated high-end Holmium Yag Laser device for department of Urology on this occasion.
