Contract health workers stage protest in UP
UNI Nov 02, 2019
Opposing the termination of their services, 61 contract workers, working in government hospitals in Gonda staged a 'dharna' at the district hospital gate on 1st November and demanded that all contract workers be accommodated in the National Health Mission.
These 61 contractual workers said their contracts were being renewed since past four years but this time, the government has given instructions to end the services of contract health workers posted in 51 districts of the state, citing a lack of budget. The protesters said because of this decision of the government, the contractual workers will be left with no source of income. Owing to the protest, patients had to face numerous difficulties to get treatment and medical check-ups in the hospital.
