UNI Sep 28, 2019

The Crime Branch-CID police on 26th September arrested Medical student KV Udit Surya and his father Dr Venkatesh for impersonation in NEET exam.

Police sources said Udit Surya and Dr Venkatesh, who was working as a senior medical officer at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital at Chennai, were arrested after being questioning for hours together by senior police officials at CB-CID office. They have been booked under three sections of the IPC. Their statements were recorded and videographed, the sources added. During the interrogation, both of them accepted the offence and admitted to having engaged an impersonator to write the NEET exam for Udit Surya to secure an admission in the Government Theni Medical College. The police however let out Udit Surya’s mother V.Kayalvizhi, who was also detained for interrogation after a detailed investigation.

After a medical examination, Udit Surya and Dr.Venkatesh were produced before the Judicial Magistrate court tonight. They were remanded to judicial custody by the magistrate N.Panneerselvam and were subsequently lodged in Madurai Central Prison. The CB-CID police would move the court seeking to take them into their custody for further investigation in the case. Earlier, the CB-CID police team nabbed Udit Surya, Dr.Venkatesh and Kayalvizhi from Tirupati on Wednesday, a day after the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court rejected the anticipatory bail petition of the student. Udit Surya and his parents were on the run ever since the Gandamanur Vilakku police in Theni district registered a case against him on September 18.

Udit Surya, who failed to crack NEET exams held in 2017 and 2018 in Tamil Nadu, cleared it in Mumbai. It was alleged that he used a proxy to clear the NEET 2019 exam. The officials of Government Theni Medical College found that the photograph on the admission card did not match with the original identity of the student.
