A 25-year-old woman who recently delivered a baby girl, on August 22 gave a new lease of life to needy patients by donating her cadaver organs, after she was declared brain dead at Manik Hospital, Aurangabad.
The woman, hailing from Varangaon village in Bhuswal taluka of Jalgaon district, had delivered the baby girl on August 2, in a private hospital. "On August 14, she was again admitted to Manik hospital for a brain surgery. However, her condition continued to deteriorate and she was later declared brain dead," sources from the hospital said.
After seeking consent of her family members, the doctors harvested both of her kidneys and liver. While one of the kidney and liver were sent to the Kamlnayan Bajaj Hospital and New Vera Hospital at Nagpur respectively, the other kidney was transplanted to a patient in the United Cigma Hospital, said Dr Ulhas Kondapalle, director of Manik hospital, informed. "Meanwhile, the baby was shifted to a hospital in Varangaon, whereas her mother's body was taken for funeral", her relative said. This was the 21st organ donation in Aurangabad city in recent years.
