Diabetic Medicine Aug 09, 2019
Johnson B, Norman P, Sanders T, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed a 5-day self-management education course for young people, aged 16 to 24 years, with type 1 diabetes and evaluated its impacts on knowledge, self-efficacy, beliefs, distress, self-management behaviors and HbA1c. According to findings, self-reported knowledge, self-efficacy, positive outcome expectances, and self-management behaviors saw statistically significant increases, as well as a statistically significant declines in negative outcome expectances between baseline and end of course. Self-reported knowledge, self-efficacy, self-management behaviors, and cognitive diabetes adaptation also had statistically significant increases between baseline and 3-month follow-up. The findings show the possible advantages of a self-management course intended to tackle young individuals with type 1 diabetes' developmental requirements and difficulties. To confirm these initial findings, further studies with larger numbers and adequate controls are required.
