Drug and Alcohol Dependence Dec 22, 2017

Wilson MN, et al. - The authors performed this study to ascertain whether there was a relationship between parental supply, drinking frequency, and alcohol-related harms among youth. Furthermore, they evaluated if parental monitoring moderated this relationship. Compared to those who obtain their alcohol from friends, youth who received alcohol from parents’ reported fewer alcohol-related harms, despite no observed differences in drinking frequency. Further research was required to understand how parents could minimize experiences of alcohol-related harm among youth, apart from promoting abstinence from drinking.
