Vitreous hemorrhage in diabetic patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy undergoing hemodialysis
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Oct 25, 2019
Kameda Y, et al. - Via this a single-center, retrospective, cohort study, researchers clarified the association between hemodialysis and vitreous hemorrhage in individuals with diabetes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). No important variation in the first-year incidence of vitreous hemorrhage between the hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis groups was noted. In the dialysis period, the incidence of vitreous hemorrhage was significantly lower than that in the predialysis period. Only the application of panretinal photocoagulation within the last 6 months shortly prior to hemodialysis was significantly related to the incidence of vitreous hemorrhage following the start of hemodialysis. Hence, in individuals with diabetes with PDR, hemodialysis therapy does not appear to be related to a greater risk of vitreous hemorrhage.
