Vitrectomy for macular disorders associated with lamellar macular hole epiretinal proliferation
Retina Apr 05, 2018
Choi WS, et al. - Authors sought to compare the surgical outcome of a lamellar macular hole (LMH) depending on lamellar hole-associated epiretinal proliferation (LHEP) and full-thickness macular hole. Compared to those with highly reflective epiretinal membranes, lamellar macular hole with LHEP demonstrated poorer visual outcomes. No significant difference between groups (Group 1, having epiretinal membranes with LMH without LHEP; Group 2, having LMH with LHEP and Group 3, having full-thickness macular hole with LHEP) was demonstrated by the preoperative best-corrected visual acuity. Findings revealed a greater chance of ellipsoid zone disruption from lamellar macular hole with LHEP. The wide variability of visual outcomes previously reported after vitrectomy for LMH could be explained by these findings.
