Vitamin D is related to handgrip strength in adult men aged 50 years and over: A population study from the TCLSIH cohort study
Clinical Endocrinology Mar 20, 2019
Wang J, et al. - Using age 50 as a cutoff, researchers analyzed the association between vitamin D and handgrip strength (HGS). For this investigation, they involved 5,102 participants (2,911 males, 2,191 females) from the TCLSIH Cohort. Using an enzyme immunoassay, serum concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) was measured. HGS was measured using a hydraulic hand-held dynamometer. According to this population-based, cross-sectional study, a significant association was found between serum 25(OH)D concentration and HGS in males over 50 years of age, regardless of confounding factors. However, there were no relationships between serum 25(OH)D concentration and HGS in males under 50 years of age and females throughout the age range.
