Variables affecting penetrance of gastric and duodenal phenotype in familial adenomatous polyposis patients
BMC Gastroenterology Jul 20, 2018
Sample DC, et al. - In the present study, the researchers prospectively characterize the duodenal and gastric polyp phenotype in a cohort of 150 familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) patients undergoing pre-screening for a chemoprevention trial, as well as examined variables that could affect recommendations for surveillance. Study participants were people with a diagnosis of FAP had prospective esophagogastroduodenoscopy using a uniform system of mapping of size and number of duodenal polyps for a 10 cm segment. It was observed that most FAP patients had duodenal and gastric polyps which become more prevalent and advanced with age. Based on personal history independent of APC mutation location, standard upper endoscopic surveillance was recommended.
