Utility of cardiovascular implantable electronic device–derived patient activity to predict clinical outcomes

Heart Rhythm May 02, 2021

Rosero SZ, Younis A, Jones P, et al. - Researchers examined cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED)-derived activity to predict clinical results. They used 1500 patients enrolled in MADIT-RIT (Multicenter Automatic Defibrillator Implantation Trial – Reduce Inappropriate Therapy), in whom CIED-derived patient activity was obtained daily, then averaged for the first 30 days post-randomization to predict inappropriate/appropriate therapy or death. They found inappropriate therapy was predicted by high CIED-derived 30-day median patient activity, while mortality and heart failure were predicted by low patient activity among implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator patients enrolled in MADIT-RIT. Device-derived activity evaluation could be a beneficial predictor of outcomes.
