Usefulness of visfatin as a predictor of atrial fibrillation recurrence after ablation procedure
The American Journal of Cardiology Nov 17, 2019
Platek AE, et al. - By performing this prospective, long-term, observational study in consecutive patients admitted for atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation, researchers ascertained whether there exists a link between baseline visfatin levels and the risk of arrhythmia recurrence following AF ablation. Screening for cardiovascular risk factors was performed in all patients. Blood samples were obtained to measure visfatin levels prior to the ablation procedure. This study included 236 patients with a mean age of 57.8 years (64.8% male). The follow-up among participants revealed AF recurrence in 129 (54.7%) cases. A high risk of arrhythmia recurrence post-ablation for AF was observed in patients with higher visfatin levels. The usefulness of visfatin was suggested as a marker for risk stratification in this group of patients.
