Usefulness of screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm during transthoracic echocardiography in women ≥ 50 years of age
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 27, 2018
Matsumura Y, et al. - Researchers assessed the clinical utility of screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) during transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). They also identified the important TTE indices related to AAA in women in a routine clinical setting. Findings suggested excellent visibility of the abdominal aorta using TTE probe. Screening for AAA should be carried out when the aortic root size is ≥ 28.0 mm during TTE in women ≥ 50 years of age. AAA could be predicted by aortic root size of ≥ 30.3 mm and an aortic root size of ≥ 28.0 mm was seen among all patients with AAA. Most independent TTE index of AAA was the aortic root size; as seen in the multiple logistic regression analysis.
