Usefulness of epicardial adipose tissue volume to predict recurrent atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency catheter ablation

The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 24, 2018

Maeda M, et al. - Researchers assessed the associations between epicardial adipose tissue volume (EATV) and characteristics of atrial fibrillation (AF), the influence of EATV on recurrent AF after radiofrequency ablation, and an effective cutoff point for recurrent AF using a receiver operating characteristic curve. They found that, specific cardiometabolic derangements, as well as left atrial dilatation and left ventricular dysfunction, were evident in the high EATV group. In the multivariate regression analysis, the EATV index (EATVI) was identified as an independent predictor of recurrent AF after catheter ablation. According to results, recurrent AF after catheter ablation could be predicted by high EATV (EATVI ≥ 85 mL/m2) or EATVI cutoff ≥ 116 ml/m2, independent of other risk factors.
