Use of ventilatory efficiency slope as a marker for increased mortality in wild-type transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 15, 2019
Yunis A, et al. - In this study including 56 patients with biopsy and immunohistochemically-proven wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRwt), researchers assessed the benefit of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) on outcomes in patients with ATTRwt cardiomyopathy. The participants were enrolled between 2005-2015, as part of an NIH ATTRwt substudy at the Boston University Amyloidosis Center. They prospectively analyzed information regarding laboratory tests, EKG, echocardiography, in addition to CPET. The patients who were at increased risk of death could be identified by increased VE/VCO2, in combination with CRP, sodium and creatinine. In the objective evaluation of therapeutic response in ATTRwt cardiac amyloidosis, a potential possible role of VE/VCO2 was suggested.
