Use of proton pump inhibitors and risk of ischemic events in the general population
Atherosclerosis Sep 02, 2018
Casula M, et al. - In a cohort of incident proton pump inhibitor (PPI) users, authors assessed the risk of hospitalization for cardio/cerebrovascular (CV) events. Regional healthcare utilization databases were used for this nested case-control study. Findings suggested an independent correlation between use of PPIs and an increased risk of first-time cardiovascular event in the primary care setting. This association was consistent with evidence that vascular function was adversely impacted by PPIs, underlying the need to promote appropriate prescribing of these drugs.
