Usage of PCI and long-term cardiovascular risk in post-myocardial infarction patients: A nationwide registry cohort study from Finland
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders May 28, 2019
Kytö V, et al. - Via this observational, retrospective cohort database linkage study, researchers focused on the risk of developing subsequent cardiovascular events in myocardial infarction (MI) patients by analyzing patient level data from Finland. They evaluated the relation of risk between the preselected covariates and incidence of specific outcomes by using Cox proportional hazards models. New MI, stroke, cardiovascular mortality and overall mortality were the primary endpoints. With aging, a steep increase in the risk of cardiovascular events and death following MI was evident. Although at higher risk, the chances of receiving percutaneous coronary intervention after MI were less among aging patients and those with cardiovascular comorbidities. Findings revealed a link between female sex and better survival post-MI, this was evident irrespective of less intensive treatment in women.
