Uric acid and blood pressure: Exploring the role of uric acid production in the Maastricht Study

Scheepers LEJM, et al. – This study investigated the association of serum uric acid concentration and 24–h urinary uric acid excretion with ambulatory 24–h blood pressure (BP) and hypertension. Findings showed an association of higher serum and urinary uric acid concentrations with higher 24–h mean arterial pressure (MAP) and hypertension. Overall, serum and 24–urinary uric acid concentrations, independent of each other, were associated with BP and hypertension.
