Undertreatment of cardiovascular risk factors in the type 1 diabetes exchange clinic network (USA) and the prospective diabetes follow‐up (Germany/Austria) registries
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Apr 29, 2020
Shah VN, Grimsmann JM, Foster N, et al. - In this investigation involving 47,936 patients, researchers examined the control of cardiovascular risk factors in type 1 diabetes (T1D) registries from the USA and Germany/Austria. Data from the T1D Exchange Clinic Network (T1DX, USA) and the Prospective Diabetes Follow‐up Registry (DPV, Germany/Austria) between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2018 were analyzed for individuals aged ≥ 12 years with T1D for ≥ 1 year. According to results, achievement of A1c goals in the DPV for those < 65 years was higher, however, more older adults (age ≥ 65 years) in the T1DX reached A1c goal of < 7.5% compared with DPV (70% vs 50%,). The frequency of overweight and obese patients was higher in T1DX. A minority of T1D patients meet glycemic targets and most are treated inadequately for hypertension and dyslipidemia. It underlines the need for better approaches to control diabetes and cardiovascular risk in T1D.
