Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection for the treatment of superior glenoid paralabral cysts
Arthroscopy Jan 29, 2021
Paschos NK, et al. - In this study, the efficacy of ultrasound-guided cyst aspiration and injection of corticosteroid for the treatment of superior glenoid paralabral ganglion cysts was explored. Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of all consecutive patients who had undergone ultrasound-guided aspiration and corticosteroid injection for superior glenoid paralabral cysts. For the analysis, 97 patients were distinguished as the inclusion/exclusion criteria [mean age was 51 years (SD 11.8) at time of treatment]. For symptomatic superior glenoid paralabral cysts, ultrasound-guided aspiration and corticosteroid injection were found to be safe and effective. The data exhibited that 82% of the patients with symptomatic paralabral cyst were successfully treated with aspiration and injection and 97% of them were able to return to work. This method can be successfully applied as the first line of treatment for those individuals that wish to avoid surgery.
