Trends in the prevalence of diabetes among U.S. adults: 1999–2016
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Aug 23, 2018
Fang M - Among US adults, researchers evaluated recent trends in diabetes prevalence by looking at data from participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The prevalence of diabetes from 1999 to 2016 increased at a substantial rate among US adults. Across subgroups, occurrence of this growth differed, with Mexican-American adults especially affected by this growth. Population aging and increasing obesity rates were the main drivers of this growth. Changes in the age and rates of obesity in the U.S. population accounted for roughly 40% of the increase in total diabetes.
