Transcatheter mitral valve repair in patients with heart failure: A meta- analysis
Cardiology Dec 04, 2020
Vallakati A, et al. - By analyzing relevant published studies in this meta-analysis, researchers assessed the impact of transcatheter mitral valve repair, using the MitraClip device, in heart failure patients experiencing significant secondary mitral regurgitation (MR). From PubMed, Cochran CENTRAL, and Embase databases, experts identified four eligible studies, including 2 randomized controlled and 2 nonrandomized studies. Overall 1,421 patients were included in the pooled analysis, of which 746 were treated with transcatheter mitral valve repair and 675 with medical therapy alone. As per evidence from pooled analysis, transcatheter mitral valve repair using MitraClip on top of medical therapy not only conferred a survival benefit but may also reduce hospitalizations, in comparison with guideline-directed medical therapy alone, in appropriately selected symptomatic heart failure patients with significant secondary MR.
