Transarterial embolisation with bleomycin and N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate –Lipiodol mixture for symptomatic polycystic liver disease: Preliminary experience
Clinical Radiology Sep 30, 2019
Yan JY, Zhang JL, Yuan K, et al. - A total of consecutive 14 symptomatic patients with polycystic liver disease (PLD) who were referred and underwent transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) with N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA)–Lipiodol mixture (BNL) were enrolled to assess the therapeutic impact and safety of transarterial embolization using a bleomycin–Lipiodol mixture and BNL for the treatment of PLD. The technical accomplishment was attained in all cases. In 13 of the treated patients, PLD-related severe symptoms got better significantly. In 13 patients at 6–12 months following TAE, the total liver volume reduced significantly in comparison with pre-TAE. No major complications correlated with the procedure were noted. Hence, for treating symptomatic PLD patients, TAE with the bleomycin–Lipiodol mixture and NBCA–Lipiodol mixture could be an efficient method, with the betterment of symptoms and shrinkage of cyst volume.
