Toric phakic IOLs in keratoconus—evaluation of preoperative parameters on the outcome of phakic anterior chamber lens implantation in patients with keratoconus

Fischinger IR, Wendelstein J, Tetz K, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective study to assess the influence of the type of the keratectasia and preoperative keratometry readings on the effectiveness of implantation of iris-fixated phakic anterior chamber intraocular lenses (pIOL) in patients with keratoconus. For this analysis, iris-fixated pIOLs [Artisan/Artiflex (Ophtec), Verisyse/Veriflex (AMO) were implanted in 38 eyes of 22 individuals with stable keratoconus. The results indicate that for patients with keratoconus, the implantation of phakic iris-fixated anterior chamber IOLs is a reasonable refractive option. Keratoconus patients with a pellucidal marginal degeneration-like appearance ectasia tend to benefit most from these procedures.
