Topographical pressure pain sensitivity maps of the feet reveal bilateral pain sensitivity in patients with unilateral plantar heel pain
Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy Mar 31, 2019
Rios-Leon M, et al. - Investigators examined 35 subjects with unilateral plantar heel pain and 35 matched healthy controls to analyze the variations in topographical pressure pain sensitivity maps of the feet and also to ascertain the association of topographical pressure maps, pain intensity and disability with fascia thickness. They reported lower bilateral Pressure pain thresholds (PPT) and higher PPT on the calcaneus bone in subjects with plantar heel pain as compared to healthy controls. They also found lower PPTs in females as compared to males. An incline in fascia thickness (only on the affected side) was reported in individuals with plantar heel pain as compared to healthy controls.
