Thrombocytopenia after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: A comparison between balloon-expandable and self-expanding valves
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jun 14, 2019
Hernández-Enríquez M, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), researchers focused on the differences in post-procedural drop platelet count (DPC) between balloon-expandable valves (BEVs) or self-expanding valves, as well as their prognostic implications in clinical outcomes. DPC ≤ 30% and DPC > 30% were the two groups defined. Outcomes were defined using VARC-2 criteria. Overall 195 patients (age 77.5 ± 6.7, 57.4% males) were included. A higher risk of DPC post-TAVI was observed in relation to the use of BEV. An increased risk of major complications at 30 days was reported in relation to a DPC rate > 30%.
