The surgical outcome of Lisfranc injuries accompanied by multiple metatarsal fractures: A multicenter retrospective study
Injury Dec 22, 2018
Fan MQ, et al. - Researchers performed the first study on Lisfranc injury associated with multiple metatarsal fractures. They referred metatarsal fractures to metatarsal head, neck, and shaft (including shaft fractures accompanied by fractures of the base) fractures, as well as mixed (ie, segmental fracture) fractures, as seen on imaging studies. They analyzed 176 patients who underwent either surgical fusion (primary partial arthrodesis, PPA; n = 78) or non-fusion (percutaneous or open reduction and internal fixation, ORIF; n = 98) procedures. Patients with fusion displayed better postoperative outcomes than those without fusion during the more than 2 years follow-up period. The group (ORIF with dorsal plates and K-wires) displayed an optimal outcome in the non-fusion group. The group (PPA with screws, dorsal plates and K-wires) displayed a better outcome in the fusion group. Patients with k-wires indicated no poor postoperative outcomes for more than 2 years follow-up.
