The role of CPAP treatment in elderly patients with moderate obstructive sleep apnea: A multicenter randomised controlled trial
European Respiratory Journal Jun 12, 2019
Ponce S, et al. - In this open-label, randomised, multicenter clinical trial, researchers examined how clinical, quality of life and neurocognitive spheres were influenced by continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment in elderly patients (n=143, ≥70 years old) with moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)(apnea-hypopnea index between 15 and 29.9 events·h−1). Overall 73 subjects received CPAP and 72 did not (no CPAP), using randomization, for 3 months. Significant improvement in diurnal hypersomnia and some sleep-associated symptoms and quality of life domains were evident in relation to CPAP treatment in elderly patients with moderate OSA.
