The role of CHA2DS2-VASc score in evaluating patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Coronary Artery Disease May 11, 2021
Parfrey S, Teh AW, Roberts L, et al. - By conducting this review, researchers investigated if CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc score predicts mortality in patients experiencing atrial fibrillation receiving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Using a large Australian registry, 564 patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing PCI were included, in whom CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc score was computed. Patients were split into low (1–2), intermediate (3–4) and high (≥5) groups. Findings revealed significantly worse outcomes in relation to higher CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc scores in patients with atrial fibrillation receiving PCI. In this cohort, patients were probably undertreated with anticoagulation despite being high-risk. Improvement in long-term outcomes may potentially be achieved via close clinical follow-up with greater utilization of anticoagulation and optimal medical therapy.
