The risk factors of urinary tract infection after transurethral resection of bladder tumors
World Journal of Urology Mar 31, 2019
Kohada Y, et al. - Between 2006 and 2017, researchers assessed 687 subjects who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) at Hiroshima Prefectural Hospital to estimate the risk factors of urinary tract infection (UTIs) following TURBT. They noticed 21 individuals suffering from postoperative UTIs. They were successfully managed with the immediate administration of antimicrobial prophylaxis (AMP). They found an association of past pelvic radiotherapy, tumor size (≥ 2cm), age (≥ 75 years), preoperative hospital stay (≥ 5 days), asymptomatic pyuria and bacteriuria with postoperative UTIs.
