The relationship between glucose variability and insulin sensitivity and oxidative stress in individuals with prediabetes
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Nov 16, 2019
Dimova R, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between glucose variability (GV) and insulin levels, insulin resistance and oxidative stress at early stages of glucose intolerance. In total, 50 patients (mean age 55.6 ± 9.7 years, mean BMI 28.4 ± 6.4 kg/m2), divided into two groups according to glucose tolerance: 32 with prediabetes and 18 with normal glucose tolerance were involved. The data presented in this work showed a significant relationship between oxidative stress and insulin resistance at early stages of glucose intolerance. Chronic hyperglycemia and GV appear to be associated with insulin levels and insulin resistance, and only postload glycaemia for prediabetes oxidative stress.
