The relationship between galectin-3 levels and fragmented QRS (fQRS) in patients with heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology Jun 24, 2019
Barman HA, et al. - In this study with patients with heart failure (HF) and severely reduced left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 35%, researchers focused on the link between the presence of fragmented QRS (fQRS, an indicator of myocardial scarring) on electrocardiogram (ECG) and plasma galectin-3 levels. Two groups of patients were defined based on the presence (n = 40) or absence (n = 85) of an fQRS on ECG. The study sample had a mean age of 65.1 ± 11.6 with male predominance (87.70%). Findings revealed the association of fQRS and serum galectin-3 levels with myocardial fibrosis, as well as with poor prognosis in HF. Serum galectin-3 levels positively correlated to fQRS on ECG.
