Shao JT, et al. - This study assessed third-trimester pregnant women to determine the link between body adiposity index (BAI) and pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). Findings demonstrated a correlation between BAI and PIH. Additionally, BAI showed moderate accuracy for detecting third-trimester pregnant women with PIH.

Methods

• A total of 126 women in the third trimester of pregnancy were enrolled in this study.
• Anthropometric measurements and ultrasonic testing were completed by all participants.

Results

• The formula of BAI was hip circumference (cm)/height (m)^1.5-18.
• Findings demonstrated that the frequency of PIH were significantly higher in the upper tertile group (31.0%) than in the low tertile group (7.1%) and the middle tertile group (4.8%) (P<0.01).
• Data reported that the area under curve values for the accuracy of BAI in identifying PIH were 0.784.
• Researchers found that the optimal threshold of BAI for identifying PIH was 36.0.
• They also noted that the sensitivity was 72.2% and the specificity was 85.1%.
