The prognostic value of 2D strain in assessment of the right ventricle in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy
European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Mar 08, 2019
Seo J, et al. - In 143 dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients with sinus rhythm (mean age 64.6 years), researchers examined the link between right ventricular (RV) strain and adverse events. Echocardiography was performed and, using the apical four-chamber view, RV strain values were determined. Patients were followed-up for 40.0 months. The primary outcome was independently predicted only by RV free wall longitudinal strain (RV-FWLS) in Cox proportional hazards multivariate analysis. For detecting patients with an event, −16.5% (area under the curve = 0.703, P = 0.003) was defined as the optimal RV-FWLS cut-off value in receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis. More favorable clinical outcomes were observed in patients with RV-FWLS <−16.5% vs those with RV-FWLS ≥−16.5%. In DCM patients with sinus rhythm, the significant prognostic impact of RV-FWLS was evident.
