The prognostic impact of primary tumor location in patients with stage II and stage III colon cancer receiving adjuvant therapy. A GISCAD analysis from three large randomized trials
European Journal of Cancer Mar 28, 2019
Cascinu S, et al. - Investigators studied 5,239 patients to assess the prognostic consequence of primary tumor location in outpatients with stage II and stage III colon cancer receiving adjuvant treatment. They observed 1,540 right-sided tumors, 815 tumors originating in the transverse, and, 2,884 left-sided tumors. They found that DFS findings from the right-sided vs left-sided tumors were not statistically correlated with clinical consequences in the overall population, but outcomes were significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of the right-sided vs left-sided tumors. In stage II cases, they found no variation in terms of DFS and OS among the three separate tumor locations, but left-sided tumors had an improved prognosis in terms of OS in stage III cases.
