The prevalence, predictors, and prognosis of tricuspid regurgitation in stage B and C heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
ESC Heart Failure Sep 27, 2020
Ren QW, Li Xl, Fang J, et al. - Researchers focused on the prevalence as well as the prognosis of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) in patients experiencing heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). This study involved 2,014 patients with stage B (n = 1,341) or C (n = 673) HFpEF. Participants were examined by performing detailed transthoracic echocardiogram. Experts graded TR severity as no, mild, moderate, and severe. They found that prevalence of moderate/severe TR rose from stage B to C HF (8% to 16%, respectively). Factors independently related to moderate/severe TR were: older age, hyperlipidaemia, atrial fibrillation, left ventricular mass, and right ventricular systolic pressure. Overall, experts identified that among patients with stage B HF and stage C HFpEF, the development of moderate/severe TR was not uncommon. Essentially, an independent correlation of moderate/severe TR with mortality as well as HF requiring hospitalization was found in this study.
