The predictive effect of medical illnesses for mental health care in adolescence: A register-based study

Karukivi M, et al. – This register–based study was meant to evaluate whether, and to what extent, different medical diagnoses predict subsequent use of mental health services among adolescents. The major risk factor for later use of mental health services were medical symptoms and illnesses that require a referral to a pediatrician. These findings highlighted the need for psychological distress screening strategies among patients with somatic illnesses.
