The possible role of sirtuin 5 in the pathogenesis of apical periodontitis

Oral Diseases Nov 21, 2020

Yang CN, Lin SK, Kok SH, et al. - In this investigation, the researchers sought to explore the connection between the expression of sirtuin 5 (SIRT5) in osteoblastic cells and progression of apical periodontitis, as well as to investigate the role of SIRT5 in hypoxia‐induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation and osteoblast apoptosis. Findings suggested that SIRT5 is able to alleviate hypoxia‐enhanced osteoblast apoptosis. SIRT5 augmentation can be therapeutic for apical periodontitis.
