The occurrence of seizures after ischemic stroke does not influence long-term mortality: A 26-year follow-up study
Journal of Neurology Jun 07, 2018
van Tuijl JH, et al. - Researchers evaluated if seizures in an early or late phase after ischemic stroke were an independent determinant of long-term mortality via a large prospective cohort study. Four hundred forty-four ischemic stroke patients with a first-ever supratentorial brain infarct were followed for no less than 2 years after their stroke to monitor the occurrence of seizures. Cox-regression analyses were used to correct for possible confounding factors. It was observed in the findings that neither early-onset nor late-onset seizures had a negative impact on long-term mortality in ischemic stroke patients.
