The novel lncRNA p4516 acts as a prognostic biomarker promoting gastric cancer cell proliferation and metastasis
Cancer Management and Research Jun 19, 2019
Nie ML, et al. - Researchers investigated the exact biological functions as well as the underlying molecular mechanisms of p4516 [a novel long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)] in gastric tumorigenesis. In both gastric cancer (GC) cell lines and in 142 primary GC tissues, they evaluated p4516 expression levels using qRT-PCR. The main location of lncRNA p4516 was the nucleus of GC cells. GC cells vs normal gastric mucosa-derived cells GES-1 exhibited higher expression levels of p4516. In GC patients, a correlation of higher expression levels of p4516 with worse clinical outcomes was observed. Both in vivo and in vitro, the participation of p4516 in the regulation of GC cell proliferation, invasion and migration was found in functional analysis. p4516 was implicated in epithelial–mesenchymal transition in GC cells. For the first time, novel lncRNA p4516 was shown to have an oncogenic role in the gastric carcinogenesis. In GC patients, high expression of p4516 may serve as prognostic marker.
