The influence of the age-period-cohort effects on the temporal trend mortality from schistosomiasis in Brazil from 1980 to 2014
PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases Apr 28, 2020
Simões TC, et al. - In this study, researchers examined how age, period and birth cohort have affected the temporal evolution of mortality from schistosomiasis in Brazil, according to gender and geographic regions, in the last three decades, considering cohorts from 1898–1902. Over the period of time analyzed, decrease in the death rates was observed. Increase in the death rates was noted with increasing individual’s age; these were higher in the older birth cohorts. Oer the Age-Period-Cohort analysis, children under 14 years of age show a protective effect against death from schistosomiasis. Men were noted to be at significant risk of death between 25 and 54 years old, while women were noted to be at risk after 70 years of age.
