The independent associations of protein consumption with body fat and glycaemic control in adult Chinese
European Journal of Nutrition Jun 19, 2018
Liu X, et al. - Researchers used data for a total of 9360 men and women aged 18 years or older from China Health and Nutrition Survey 2009, to assess the associations of protein intake with adiposity and glycaemic control. Validated Chinese-specific equations were used to estimate the body fat percentage. Food-weighing approach combined with a 3-day food intake recall was used to assess dietary intake levels of macronutrients. Findings revealed that higher adiposity and worse glycaemic control may be reported in Chinese adults in association with higher habitual protein consumption. This association was suggested to be independent of total energy intake.
