The incidence of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is increasing
Acta Ophthalmologica Mar 06, 2020
Nielsen BR, et al. - Based on data from the National Patient Registry, researchers sought to analyze the development over time of the age- and sex-standardized incidence of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), sight-threatening disease mainly affecting people 50 years or older, in Denmark. Eleven thousand seven hundred sixty-nine individuals with a primary RRD surgery in either eye from 2000 to 2016 were identified. During the study period, the age- and sex-standardized incidence rate of RRD rose by more than 50%. According to findings, RRD incidence is increasing, and this rise is driven primarily by men 50 years of age or older.
