The incidence of colorectal cancer in patients with previously removed polyp(s): A cross-sectional study
Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology Jul 23, 2018
Loffeld RJLF, et al. - Researchers used 25 consecutive years of a prospectively collected dataset on colonoscopy to determine the occurrence of colorectal cancer in unselected patients after index colonoscopy with polyp removal. Excluded patients were those with colorectal cancer and patients belonging to Lynch families. They documented tumor stage, histology of earlier removed polyps, localization of the tumor and demographics in case of cancer time after the index and previous procedure. Based on the findings, they concluded an association between follow-up after removal of polyps in normal daily practice and a low incidence of developing colorectal cancer.
