The in-hospital burden of hidradenitis suppurativa in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: A decade nationwide analysis from 2004 to 2014
International Journal of Dermatology Feb 23, 2018
Ramos-Rodriguez AJ, et al. - The in-hospital burden of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) on patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) was determined. The unique baseline characteristics and co-morbidities of IBD patients with HS were determined. IBD-HS patients were significantly younger and mostly African-American females. The patients were more likely to be smokers, obese, and have diabetes mellitus, depression, and anemia. In addition, these patients had an increased hospital length of stay and higher total hospitalization costs. Thus, these two inflammatory conditions are associated and demonstrated their joint effect on overall morbidity, mortality, and resource utilization.
