The impact of frailty on patient reported outcome measures following elective thoracolumbar spine surgery
The Spine Journal Sep 16, 2020
Beauchamp-Chalifour P, et al. - This study was undertaken to ascertain the effect of frailty on patient Related Outcome Measures (PROMS) in patients undergoing surgery for thoracolumbar degenerative conditions and to determine the relationship between frailty and baseline PROMS. Researchers conducted a retrospective study of a prospective cohort of patients who had undergone surgery between 2012 and 2018. A total of 293 patients were included with a mean age of 67±7 years who had undergone surgery for thoracolumbar degenerative conditions. It does not prognosticate worse PROMS after spine surgery in that population, although frailty is a known predictor of adverse events. The evidence exhibited that non-frail, prefrail, and frail patients have similar PROMS at baseline.
