The effects of marijuana use on lumbar spinal fusion

Spine Apr 18, 2020

Jakoi AM, et al. - This study was intended to evaluate marijuana usage and its effect on outcomes following transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). In the United States, marijuana becomes legalized, its medicinal and recreational usage is becoming more mainstream. Physicians currently have little guidance regarding both short-term and long-term impacts of marijuana usage on surgical interventions. A total of 102 individuals who had undergone TLIF (follow up period was 12 month). Patients were self-reported for marijuana usage (n = 36). The data showed that perioperative outcomes were similar in patients who had undergone TLIF regardless of marijuana usage.
