The effect of pacemaker implantation after transcatheter aortic valve replacement on long- and mid -term mortality
Heart Rhythm Oct 22, 2020
Hochstadt A, Merdler I, Meridor Y, et al. - Researchers analyzed a large cohort comprising post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) patients, to determine how mid and long-term mortality in these patients could be impacted by permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation. Participants were patients receiving TAVR between 2009 and 2019. The participants were split into groups: no PPM implanted (no-PPM), PPM implanted before the procedure (pre-PPM); and PPM implanted after procedure (post-PPM). Comparison of all-cause death up-to 6 years was performed. As per findings, there was no link of post procedure PPM with increased long-term mortality in this cohort. Ventricular pacing burden did not alter this conclusion.
