The effect of intermittent fasting on blood pressure variability in patients with newly diagnosed hypertension or prehypertension

Journal of the American Society of Hypertension Dec 10, 2017

Erdem Y, et al. - Among study participants, changes in BP (with office, home, central and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring [ABPM]), as well as blood pressure variability (BPV), were compared before and during intermittent fasting. As a consequence of intermittent fasting, a significant decrease was evident in BP values in terms of office and ABPM measurements, however, central BP and home measurements were not significantly changed by intermittent fasting. In addition, during intermittent fasting, an increase in BPV was noted, particularly in patients who rose before sunrise.
