The effect of fenofibrate on early retinal nerve fiber layer loss in type 2 diabetic patients: A case-control study
BMC Ophthalmology Apr 23, 2018
Shi R, et al. - Experts evaluated the impacts of fenofibrate on retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness at early stage of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). They included a cohort of 89 patients with type 2 DM, aged 40 or above, between Jan 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017 in this retrospective matched case-control study. In superior quadrant of the right eye of patients with early DR, a suggestive association was seen between oral administration of fenofibrate and thicker RNFL. Authors noted a negative correlation of BMI and albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) with the RNFL thickness of the right eye.
